Sculpted bag

Project

This project focused on designing a sculptural leather bag inspired by Nappa Dori's design language, which emphasizes craftsmanship, timeless aesthetics, and material authenticity. Through an exploration of form, structure, and construction techniques, the project aimed to create a contemporary accessory that balances functionality with artistic expression. By working closely with leather as a material, the design process investigated how shape, proportion, and craftsmanship can transform an everyday object into a distinctive statement piece while remaining practical for everyday use.

Learnings
  • Gained a better understanding of leather and its impact on form and construction.

  • Learned how brand language influences design decisions and product identity.

  • Explored translating inspiration into functional product concepts.

  • Improved visualisation and communication of 3D forms through sketching and prototyping.

  • Understood the value of paper prototyping for testing proportions, structure, and usability.

  • Learned how form, scale, and construction affect both aesthetics and functionality.

  • Developed concepts through iterative refinement and prototyping.

  • Used a full-scale paper prototype to evaluate design, construction, and color direction for further development.
